The Field Service Technician is responsible to support the portfolio of remote diagnostic analysers. He / She will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of analysers at customer sites, ensuring high-quality service and customer satisfaction. This role demands strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.

 

KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION

  • Install and configure analysers at remote customer locations, following safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Conduct system calibrations and verify functionality to meet operational standards.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on analysers to extend lifespan and prevent breakdowns.
  • Document and log all maintenance activities in line with company protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Diagnose and repair technical issues with analysers, IT systems, and associated hardware.
  • Provide timely on-site or remote troubleshooting support to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers or external service providers for complex repairs.
  • Act as a point of contact for end-users, offering guidance on using and maintaining equipment effectively.

REPORTING AND DOCUMENTATION

  • Maintain accurate records of service calls, repairs, and inventory.
  • Generate service reports, document equipment status, and highlight areas for improvement.

INVENTORY AND PARTS MANAGEMENT

  • Monitor and manage inventory of service parts and tools to ensure availability for timely repairs.
  • Coordinate with management for replacement parts and new equipment needs.
  • Adhere to expense policies and guidelines.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clinical and operational staff to understand service needs and address any issues promptly.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for facilities regarding service and equipment issues.

COMPLIANCE & QUALITY ASSURANCE

  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures and monitoring thereof.
  • Ensure that all service activities comply with regulatory standards, safety guidelines, and healthcare best practices.
  • Conduct regular audits to identify potential service improvements or training needs for staff. Comply with traffic regulations and policies with regards to the use of company vehicles.

SKILLS PROFILE
EDUCATION

  • Minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Valid registration with the HPCSA as a Phlebotomy Technician preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) – Dangerous goods.
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience as a Phlebotomy Technician or Field Services Technician.
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience as a Phlebotomy Technician or Field Services Technician.
