Job Purpose: The main responsibility of the Picker(s)/Packer(s) is to assist the warehouses and will perform his/her duties subject to the directions control and discipline of the Provincial Electoral Officer or his /her delegate.

Duties:

  1. Pick, sort and pack material.
  2. Counting of stock at the point of receipt and dispatch.
  3. Retrieve, sort and pack items for disposal according to instructions from the SAO/AO.
  4. Handling of warehouse equipment.
  5. Prepare materials for disposal.
  6. Receive, move and store incoming stock/items for the registration weekends and elections.
  7. Receive, move and store incoming stock/items from roll-back activities.
  8. Cleaning of the warehouse.
  9. Any related tasks as advised by the employer.

Minimum Requirements

Must have at least passed grade 10 and have a good command of English.

Must be able to count and have basic arithmetic skills.

Warehousing and material handling work experience or previous Picker/Packer experience will be advantageous.

Other requirements:

  1. Good interpersonal and communication skills is required, both verbal and in writing.
  2. Problem solving attributes will be advantageous.
  3. Must have a valid bank account and tax reference number
  4. Must have own mode of transport

Specific Criteria

No person shall be appointed who –

  1. is under the age of 18 years
  2. is not a registered voter
  3. is not a South African citizen
  4. has a criminal record
  5. is or has been a candidate in an election for the National Assembly, a provincial legislature or a municipal council in the last five years
  6. has been an office bearer of a political party in the last 5 years
  7. has been an office bearer of any other organization or entity that has party political aims during the last 5 years
  8. is related to an employee of the Electoral Commission in that specific municipality, without the approval of the PEO.

The above position is on a fixed term basis. The Electoral Commission will assess applications as per documentation submitted and contract only the successful candidates. The Electoral Commission is under no obligation to fill the positions after advertising it. Although advertised, it may be withdrawn, re-advertised or filled by way of deployment, should it be considered in the interest of service delivery.
