Netcare Occupational Health Nursing Practitioner
The Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner assumes responsibility for the co-ordination, provision and establishment of quality, efficient care and medical surveillances to client employees that leads to the promotion, protection and restoration of the employee’s health within a safe working environment, under administrative direction of the Unit Manager, Clinical Coordinator, Regional Operations Manager and the Occupational Health Medical Practitioner.
KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION
Risk Management
- Participating in the conducting of the Health Risk Assessment annually.
- Participating in the development of OREPs within the MDT and that there are valid man job specs/OREPs available at the clinic for every job category.
- Performing HRA for pregnant women to ensure proper placing for the duration of the pregnancy.
- Perform Annual/Periodic and Pre – employment Medical Surveillance and ensure that targets are met.
- Perform Trigger, Transfer and Follow – up medicals on request.
- Conduct Risk based medicals as per Medical Surveillance Plan.
- Conducting monthly Walkthroughs with the OMP & Multi-Disciplinary team.
- Ensure that there are updated MSDS for each chemical in the clinic and for the client.
Administration and Management
- Contributes to the generation of Month – end – Reports: submission to Regional Operations Manager by the 1st of each month.
- Provides information about patient care / environment / trends in the unit meetings.
- Facilitates the capture of employee/patient information onto the NOH information system.
- Conduct monthly internal clinic audits.
- Inform Clinical Coordinator timeously of any external audits and provide prompt feedback regarding findings.
- Completes clinic quality checklists daily and signed – off.
- Ensure availability of NOH Policies & Procedures File and proof of communication of such to staff.
- Effective implementation of the NOH standardized processes and practices.
- Effective & efficient management of medical waste.
Financial Management
- Ensure that all orders placed are within the clinic budget (Monthly medication, and office stationery) as per standard schedule. Order according to approved EDL.
- Sign off Delivery notes & invoices available on file for each order & All Invoices captured & submitted to Regional Operations Manager for processing timeously.
- Ensure that the recording of all medication dispensed in the appropriate drug register and that correct stock balances can be accounted for.
- Keeps the Locum file updated and in place for reference purposes with all locum qualifications.
- Submit request for quotations to ROM for all services outside the SLA & obtain POs, before services are rendered.
- Ensure an accurate asset register is in place & backed-up by the invoices. (Separate list for NOH & Client).
- Update the asset register monthly.
Stock Management
- Participate in stock audits.
- Management of stock daily
- Monthly calculation of stock and update minimum and maximum stock control sheet.
Equipment Maintenance
- Prevent loss of stock and equipment by proper control, inventory keeping and execution of a maintenance plan.
- Ensure safe keeping and maintenance of all equipment.
- Facilitate calibration of equipment and ensure that it is done in accordance with NOH standards and protocols.
- An equipment maintenance schedule is in place and adhered to.
- Inform Unit Manager / Clinical Coordinator at least one month in advance of when clinical equipment requires servicing & calibration.

- Induction & Orientation of locum and permanent staff.
- Assist in conducting In-service training to staff – and ensure proof available on file and attendance registers.
- Updated Staff files available at the clinic with qualifications and signed JDs
- Patient Health Education plan available and executed.
- NOH communication shared with staff & attendance registers available on file.
- Attends courses to ensure personal and professional self-development. (online courses)
Teamwork
- Actively participate as a member of a team to achieve goals.
BEST AND SAFEST PRACTICE
- Increase NOH image to achieve customer retention and growth
- Be presentable in the correct uniform, wearing distinguishing devices and name badges & promote same for the team.

SKILLS PROFILE
EDUCATION
Required
- Diploma / B Tech Degree in General Nursing
- Diploma in Midwifery
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health
- Registered with the South African Nursing Council as a general nurse and Occupational Health Nurse specialist.
- Registered Audiometrist
- Certificate in Spirometry and Vision screening
- Dispensing qualification
